Hinamatsuri Detroit Institute Of Arts - Part 1

Hinamatsuri has once more returned to the Detroit Institute Of Art. This year it was hosted on March 5th, 2023 which marks a spectacular return of the festival since covid. This event attracts visitors from all over: Canada, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and more all make their way to the DIA for an exceptional day of art and culture. This event is hosted by several organizations, most notable is the Consulate-General Of Japan located in Detroit.

Naturally, this is the perfect excuse to wear your favorite haori or kimono out. While attending the festival, there were an exceptional number of individuals dressed in kimono, of which yukata were the most common and popular. Over the years, we have made it a point to attend this festival which first started back in 2017.

This year's event did not include a Japanese kimono fashion show, so much as there was a kimono display, hands-on origami workshops, various respected artists, storytelling, and more. It was only too easy to lose yourself in the elegant atmosphere of the museum as you made your way from station to station.

For those unable to attend this year's Hinamatsuri, we have prepared a small photo gallery from today's event, and are also including links to the various artists who were a part of the show this year. All photos shared here were taken with permission and consent to share the photos in our blog. Of the wonderful activities to be enjoyed, the Koto performance was a highlight, as this instrument is best listened to live. True to our passion for kimono, it was a pleasure to not only listen to the Koto, but observe the beautiful kimono worn by the musicians.

Those reading this may notice that there is a lack of photos dedicated to the kimono display from Hinamatsuri, rest assured they will be coming soon. This event coverage will be in multiple posts and we will have a dedicated post for the Japanese kimono on display.
